Now. You might just be wondering at the purpose of all this, but! I think you'll all agree that the music in this blasted place is, while quite nice, practically prehistoric.

[She does so, but raises an eyebrow with a questioning smile.]

Oh? Really? What sort of pickle?

[He steeples his fingers and begins to pace back and forth rapidly. Always moving, never slowing.]

The predicament I find myself in is a bit complicated. I trust anything I Share with you will not be repeated?

[She even crossed her heart with her fingertip to emphasize her statement.]

[He eyes her curiously at that gesture, looking bewildered. But, he has pressing matters to attend to, and he doesn't push it.]

Bryn. Seeing as you are a human -- you are aren't you?

[She draws the word out as her brow furrows.]

At the very least I was raised as such. I've yet to pinpoint if my ability makes me other than.

[He nods -- trying to get his wording right for this next bit.]

[Okay he's dragging it out, now she's really curious.]

[He gives her a beseeching look and comes over to kneel in front of her, taking her hands.]

Bryn, in case you haven't noticed, I'm horribly inept at socializing and in general mixing with the general populace. My tolerance for stupidity is extremely low but I'm afraid in this I'm quite the buffoon.

[Clears his throat.]

I am trying to ask...if you know how to...request the presence of a member of the opposite sex to be in ones company for any given length of time -- not for anything scandalous or villainous, mind.

Just. For -- company's sake.

[She almost wants to laugh. Not because his request is at all funny, but that he thought to come to her about it. Bryn had never been on a date, had only just recently had her first kiss, and well, she had a feeling that any advice she had would be severely lacking.

But Megamind was her friend, and she couldn't imagine what it must have taken for him to come to her for help. To admit he was lacking in any way...

Bryn gave his hands a squeeze and gave him a helpless smile.]

I'm not sure I'm the best person to ask about this. I've...never done any of that myself so it's possible that any advice I have to give could be outdated or backfire on you.

[She swallows, considering, trying to figure out if there's anything she could say that had less of a chance of hurting the situation.]

Have you tried simply...asking this girl or woman if she'd like to spend time with you? Ask if she'd like to go on a date with you?

[What if he had and had already been rejected? Was that why he needed her advice?]

But you're a female! Surely you must know something, yes?

[If not, then he'd seriously put himself out on the line for nothing and now she knew what a floundering, fish out of water idiot he was.

Gods, no! No. She doesn't -- well. She might have an inkling, after that blasted infernal plant, but...

[He frowns.]

[The plant? ...oh.

Bryn's eyes widen, and a smile spreads on her face.]

Did you two kiss, Megamind?

[This might be easier than she thought. If there's already mutual interest then things become much simpler in her opinion.]

Well if it were me and someone wanted to spend time with me I'd...just want them to ask me. To find something we both would enjoy doing and ask me if I'd like to. Because they wanted to.

[And it really was that simple in her opinion. Her mother had spoken at length about social behavior what was and wasn't acceptable for a girl like her, and what to expect...but it was never anything she wanted for herself.]

But you have to understand that I...I've never been asked out before so you shouldn't take what I say as...as well, the absolute truth. Where she's from it could be different, I don't know.

[A violet flush spreads across his cheeks as he stammers out an answer.]

I-- well. Ah. In light of the season and the urging of an erratically dancing arachnid, er. Yes. Several...times.

[He swallows and does his best not to look sheepish, despite the blush.]

I'm uncertain if it was simply because of the plant, or...something else. [You have to understand, Bryn - no one's ever willingly wanted to be around him like some of the people here seem to.]

What if my interest isn't returned?

[He's not really into taking chances with his feelings.]

There were several kisses, Megamind? When you get caught under mistletoe the tradition is just...one kiss. I can't say for sure how this other person feels, I mean, I don't know her or what kind of friendship you two have but I doubt she would have stuck around for more if she didn't want to.

[And she thinks it's lovely, really. Megamind is one of her closest friends and to hear that he has interest in someone, that someone returns it, well, it gives her a case of the warm fuzzies. She's really, really happy for him, especially if this actually works out.]

Just...ask her out. You two could...could eat dinner together or do an activity maybe?

If...if she isn't interested then I'm sure she'd let you know.

I...yes. More than one. I'm unfamiliar with the tradition, obviously.

[He sighs, lets go of her hands, and stands.]

My entire life I've...dealt with being labeled a freak and dismissed as a joke. I've spent the last ten years kidnapping the same woman in order to lure out her irritatingly normal looking significant other, Metro Man -- and. Well. Let's simply say that my attempts at citywide domination have been thwarted. Frequently. [Every time, Megamind.]

So -- rejection, disappointment -- I'm familiar with this.

What I'm not familiar with is...emotions. Of this caliber. Admittedly I had something of a torch for one woman but...ones frequent kidnap victim generally doesn't -- when they're sane, any way -- harbor feelings for their kidnapper.

[In other words, Bryn -- he doesn't want to get shut down. Again.]

[She understood completely. Perhaps not to the same degree as him but she definitely knew what it was like to be labeled a freak, to be dismissed. Bryn had been given a great deal of distance from everyone back home, even classmates.

Romance had never been in the equation.

There's a great deal more that Megamind appears to be dealing with for the first time, however, and Bryn can sympathize with that.]

It's new territory, I get that. I really do. And it can be especially [~~scary~~] alarming and...difficult to react to.

However from what you've said it seems as if there's mutual interest between you. If she enjoyed kissing you then it seems logical to guess that perhaps she would also be open to at least one date.

And isn't...wouldn't the potential benefit be worth the risk of rejection? We only get one life and while death isn't permanent here, any day you or I or this woman you like could simply...disappear.

Wouldn't it be worth it to at least ask before anything were to happen?

[His tone is wry and he smirks.]

Does the benefit out weigh the cost, I wonder? Does...venturing into the unknown, requesting the company of a woman simply because I enjoy hers -- is it worth it, if she could vanish at any given time? Or, for that matter, I could do the same?

I think it does. Absolutely. If...if you're lucky enough to find someone whose company you enjoy, who seems to enjoy being in yours as much, especially in that way...absolutely it's worth pursuing.

[Her expression takes just the very slightest hint of sadness, but more than that it's encouraging.]

You owe it to yourself to find happiness where you can, don't you?

[He barks a laugh.]

My apologies, but I don't exactly happen to be in that specific mindset, no.

Well perhaps you don't think so but I do.

I would consider it, yes, but it's different because you and I are friends.

You and she must have connected in a way...must have had something really important in common you could share together. Or you could simply...arrange a special dinner together. That's fairly common where I'm from.
